Amazing! East Cobb Home Office Makeover!

Amazing East Cobb Home Office Makeover!

As you might expect after the start of the pandemic, many families are investing in home office renovations. In this East Cobb family, both partners work from home, so they dreamed of private office spaces so each of them could work without distractions. Fortunately, they found Atlanta Curb Appeal by word of mouth after a neighbor’s great experience with a kitchen remodel.

This couple needed to be able to work and do conference calls without disturbing each other, so ACA reshuffled the rooms and subdivided the space to create offices with special acoustic-rated insulation. If you have ever been in a basement or downstairs office you can completely understand. Also, both couples enjoy the view of the lake behind their house, so both offices are situated to face the lake and are outfitted with large windows. Daylight in basements should always be a goal during renovations if possible.

Adjusting the rooms also meant that ACA needed to remove some load-bearing walls to create the space. We consulted with the engineers and ended up using some large laminated veneer lumber (LVL) beams to bear the weight of the upper floors. ACA also moved the duct work, electrical wires, and plumbing to the sides of the room. This allowed us to create an unusually high ceiling for a basement. ACA also dug out and reinforced a space for an exit door on the side of the house and installed sliding doors. Again, the focus is on the outdoors even though we were working on the basement level.

ACA always welcomes the input and creativity of the homeowners that we work with. In many cases, clients want to include their own handiwork in the design of the remodel. In this case, the husband was very talented with woodworking. He built the sliding barn doors, the benches by the TV, and the built-in desks. ACA was happy to incorporate these elements into our own handiwork.

These homeowners were very pleased with their new space, and ACA had fun working with them. It’s a good thing… ACA is now moving to a Phase II renovation: a screened-in porch with a fireplace! Bring on the Georgia spring!

AMAZING! Roswell Master Bath Transformation!

These Roswell homeowners asked Atlanta Curb Appeal to make some major changes to their lovely home. The new addition completely transformed their living space! Their goal was to accommodate their changing needs.

The family heard about ACA through a renovation we did to the neighbor’s house. We worked closely with this family and a designer to create this living space. Originally, the homeowners approached us to enlarge the master bathroom but as we began meeting with them, the project expanded.

We also added a big walk-in closet, and to accommodate the additional space for the bathroom and closet, we moved the laundry room upstairs. It’s so much more convenient to walk the dirty and clean laundry just one room over! Plus, having a place to fold and sort clothes creates a sense of order to the random piles that can accumulate in a tiny laundry area.

The decision to hire a designer, Becky Vander Maten – IIDA, NCIDQ, in this case, was a great decision for the family. While our experience does branch into design, we most often defer to the homeowners for colors, fixtures, furniture, and other design elements. Some homeowners have a strong sense of what they would like the finished product to look like; others might need guidance to create their dream space. We are happy to collaborate with designers. It also often makes the decision-making process run more smoothly. In this case, as with all home projects, there were unexpected obstacles. We had a great working relationship with the client and Becky, so we were able to make quick decisions to keep the project moving.

As you can see, the family ended up with a beautiful and unique master bathroom. Some of the design elements we love are the concrete tile in the shower, the chandelier, and the unique mirror shapes in the bathroom. Plus, the show-stopping ceiling beams are gorgeous!

One of the major adjustments we made was to reroute the plumbing and HVAC locations in the bathroom and add plumbing to the laundry room. This required lots of work behind the scenes, but the payoff was worth it.

In the end, this project took eight weeks to finish.

We are excited to announce that the homeowners are so pleased with the results!
