What do you do when you love your home but feel like it’s missing something? This family appreciated entertaining and playing a game of pool, but the basement left something to desire because it was partly unfinished. The solution? An updated basement with a great open floor plan and increased storage.
Atlanta Curb Appeal connected with the family thanks to a recommendation from an East Cobb realtor. The new clients had great ideas of what they wanted their updated basement to look like but needed some help completing the vision. During the meeting, the clients shared their plan of desired finishes and colors as well as the floor style and color. The goal was to end up with a gorgeous yet practical space.

Atlanta Curb Appeal got started by doing some demolition work. In order to create this open feeling, walls had to be removed. Also, since there was not a kitchen area downstairs before, Atlanta Curb Appeal had to install additional plumbing. A sump pump system was also added so that the lower-level drains would work properly. Commonly found in basements, these pumps siphon the gray water out. A dramatic change to a floor plan like this does require extensive plumbing and electrical work, but it was worth it for the homeowner because Atlanta Curb Appeal was able to add washer and dryer hookups along with everything else.
Next up was installing the new custom kitchen island with pull-up bar stools. The space works great for sharing a meal and cleaning up afterward.
The pantry doors on either side of the sink are a welcome addition to the downstairs area too. It’s a huge space to put things away and to reduce the number of trips up and down the stairs. Plus, the additional space under the custom island adds even more storage!
Beautiful new glass doors also brought in needed sunlight where there was once a garage door. Finding a way to bring in the light to a finished basement is always worth it. After the glass specialty company installed the doors, Atlanta Curb Appeal finished the final trim and paint to the door frames.
Overall, the whole process took about eight weeks, except for the final delivery of the custom glass doors.
The homeowners are thrilled with how it turned out and the time it took to complete the project. And a special thanks to Ally Bunin, a local designer who consulted on the final selection of fixtures and finishes.
